Volunteer Tap - DEMO Video

Project Idea

Teenage community service is more than something that your mom insists will look good on your high school resume. It can point you to new interests, new friends, and if you’re really lucky, maybe even a lifelong career (Teenlife). Some Teens and Young Adults in today's world have lots of free time and would love to use some of that time to help people in need. Young People need a website that allows for picking and choosing what events that sound interesting to volunteer for, because helping and volunteering your time is special and allows for you to grow as a human.

The goal of this project was to produce a local civic duty app that cohesively transforms into different platforms. We were tasked with producing an app, website and tablet.

Work Description

My design approach when starting this assignment was immediately researching and discovering what similar volunteering apps did well to be successful. The main software I used for this project was Figma and Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. I found Figma to be absolutely wonderful. Designing directly on Figma was easy and sleek. Figma also has icon packages that made it extremely easy to set up navigation. I used Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop to produce the logo and pin together the pictures and buttons.

Design Feedback

Design feedback is essential for producing a quality design. I got many amazing responses from peers, friends and family members that helped me fix and polish all three of my designs. To start many of my peers were saying that for the most part all three of my designs needed more detail and editing. My peers also said the navigation needed a bit of work so I definitely added better menus and tried to cohesively tie the menus together between all designs.

I ran some tests with my family and I had my Brother (Age: 29) Mother (Age: 55) and Grandpa (Age:78) run the app from start to finish. I definitely found that the my Brother was able to navigate relatively easy while my Mom and Grandpa got a little bit stuck on sections. Most people liked the colors and I tested then using the color tester.

After getting the feedback I immediately started fixing my designs and you can see a huge different in VTaps Gen 1 to Gen 2. You can most visible see the difference in the desktop designs. I did a huge overhaul fix on basically all pages and I think it works way better now.
